In a democracy in which our local, state, and federal governments will only be as responsive and as good as citizens demand them to be, it is essential that we inform and engage each generation in the processes of our country. The national challenges of our time can only be solved by a citizenry that is knowledgeable about our problems and understand how they can be part of the solution. Our curriculum focuses on the structure and processes of our government and society with an emphasis on how citizens can participate in civic life. Students will be equipped with the opportunities to apply their knowledge and skills to make a difference in our society.
Traditional 20th century American history courses often focus on the details and interpretations of historical events from the past. This new civics curriculum focuses more on how we play a role in our history. We want to use the past to inform the present, and prepare students to be engaged adults.
